CARE Ballet
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Each season CARE Ballet welcomes more than 2400 students from area schools to see our ballet performances as part of our Community Outreach program. For many in our young audiences, this is their first ballet experience. We provide the bus transportation to and from their schools to attend the show. In the weeks leading up to a performance, an education specialist and dancers from CARE go to each school for a pre-performance assembly. This enhances the ballet experience by summarizing the story, explaining the choreography, identifying character traits, and highlighting the music.
The Story
During the school assembly, our community outreach coordinator narrates the story of the ballet to prepare the children for their upcoming theatrical experience. Her presentation includes an overview of what to expect during the performance, particularly for those attending a ballet for the first time.
The Pre-Performance
CARE Ballet dancers will showcase an excerpt from the ballet during the assembly, offering a live illustration of parts of the story. Then the CARE Ballet dancers will answer questions and give the students an opportunity to try ballet steps. This fun and engaging segment serves to deepen the impact of the assembly.
The Show
Once the children arrive at the theatre on the day of the show, CARE staff will give them another overview of what to expect during the performance. They are always so excited! Watching a live performance can not only teach children to appreciate a new art form, but can spark inspiration and exploration in one's self.
